The Wars of the Roses (adaptation)

The Wars of the Roses was a 1964 adaptation of four of the history plays of William Shakespeare by John Barton, directed by Barton himself and Peter Hall at the Royal Shakespeare Company.[1] It conflated Henry VI, Part 1, Henry VI, Part 2 and Henry VI, Part 3 into two new plays, Henry VI and Edward IV, adding new blank verse by Barton. Those two new plays formed a trilogy, with the original text of Richard III. This approach contrasted with other cycles of the history plays such as This England: The Histories, which used the original plays without conflation. It was filmed for TV in 1965, again directed by Barton. [2]
